1 Introduction
Xing Cai

Wikipedia

Xing Cai (also known as, Zhang Xing Cai, or Lady Zhang) was a minor character in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Daughter of Zhang Fei, Xing Cai was married to Liu Chan, ruler of Shu and her father's nephew by oath. Little is known of her as historical records of her are fuzzy at best. It is now a widely held view that she did not exist at all.

Recently Xing Cai has been resurected as a female charcter in the popular Dynasty Warriors video game franchise. In this series she is depicted as warrior wielding a spear and shield; her goal in life being to protect her husband's country in her father's stead.Xing cai loved hunting and was very anbitious and curious not to mention very pretty getting the heart of many heroes.

In the video game series Dynasty Warriors(KOEI), Xing Cai was to be part of the famous Shu Triangle, as a second generation of the original three, which consisted of Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu, who were sworn brethren after taking an oath in a peach garden. The second generation would have consisted of Guan Ping, Liu Chan(who later became ruler of Shu, only to surrender when Wei threatened their borders), and Xing Cai. Guan Ping's death came shortly though, after his capture at Mai castle, where he and his father Guan Yu were both slain. Their deaths not only sank the hearts of Shu, but infuriated Liu Bei at the loss of his sworn brother, who sought vengeance against Wu and initiated a call to arms against Wu, against the advice of his well meaning kingdom and his advisors.

Whether this is factual or just fiction for the game's purposes is unknown, as previously stated that Xing Cai(Lady Zhang) has a little known history, and her existence is debated.
