Television Broadcasts Limited sehk|0511, commonly known as TVB, is the first wireless commercial television station in Hong Kong. Established on November 19, 1967 with only about 200 staff, it is one of the two free broadcast companies in Hong Kong and overwhelmingly dominates the market.

TVB is now the largest Chinese programme producer in the world, with a size of about 5,000 including contract artistes and staff in overseas subsidiary companies.

The current chairman is Run Run Shaw. It owns two channels in Hong Kong, PRC, namely TVB Jade and TVB Pearl. TVB Jade owns the largest audience shares in Hong Kong and is often referred to as simply TVB.

TVB reaches out to communities all over the world with its programs available in the United States, Canada, Australia, Mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore, amongst others. Its dramas are internationally acclaimed, and many of Hong Kong's top film and pop stars started their careers in TVB. Special TVB events such as the annual TVB Anniversary Celebration are broadcast to worldwide audience. TVB also runs talent programmes such as the annual Miss Hong Kong and Miss Chinese International pageants. Successful contestants are offered TVB contracts.

Though TVB enjoys an overwhelming dominance on the television market in Hong Kong, its programs have often been criticised by TV viewers for reasons such as bad taste, superficiality, dullness, and lack of creativity. Its programs have also been criticised for being strictly catered to the tastes of housewives and therefore ignoring the diverse interest of the population as a whole. Despite the criticisms raised by many people, TVB continues to enjoy a chokehold on TV viewerships in Hong Kong.

In addition, TVB has exclusive contracts with apparently many local celebrities that strictly forbids them from appearing in other local TV programs. Those who fail to comply would be banned from appearing on TVB's programs. This unfair competition is well known, but practice is taken for granted in Hong Kong.

Taking place every year, the TVB Music Awards are the one of the biggest awards for cantopop "singers". It is widely rumored that TVB gives out the awards in order to to appraise those who are "loyal". The Independent Commission Against Corruption of Hong Kong|ICAC has investigated the arrangement of the awards.

To enhance its services and to cope with future development, TVB moved its headquarters, TV City, to Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate. Its new headquarters has an area of over 110,000 sq. metres, which is 30% larger than the former TV City at Clear Water Bay. The new broadcast center is fully digitized. Relocation to the new site started in late 2002, and was completed in October 2003.
