He joined military campaigns against the Mongols, Korea and Ming Dynasty|Ming. After Hong Taiji's death in 1643, Hooge was nominated as the emperor but declined. Another major candicate Dorgon also declined. To avoid internal strife, Dorgon nominated Shunzhi Emperor of China|Fulin, Hong Taiji's ninth son born to Zhuang Fei, who was later known as the Xiaozhuangren Grand Empress Dowager|Grand Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang. After Fulin's succession, Hooge came into collision with Dorgon. After campaigns on western China, Hooge was imprisoned and died there. His wife married Prince Dorgon after his death. He was posthumously rehabilitated in 1650.
