1 Introduction
Kwun Tong

Kwun Tong (觀塘區, originally 官塘) is one of the districts of Hong Kong|18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in Kowloon. Population (2000): 564,700.

It is the most densely populated district, with 55,000 per km?.

The district contains the following areas:

  • Kwun Tong area

  • Ngau Tau Kok

  • Kowloon Bay

  • Sau Mau Ping

  • Lam Tin

  • Yau Tong and Lei Yue Mun





Town Central

  • Yue Man Square is the heart of the town in Kwun Tong. Most of the Banks are located in this road. The District Government Office, is located in the eastern end of the Yue Man Square also. More than 20 franchised and mini-bus routes are via this road.


  • Mut Wah Street is called "Golden Street" because nearly 10 jewelry shops are placed at here.


  • Shui Wo Street is a "market" street.


  • Hip Wo Street has the one and only one hospital in Kwun Tong, namely United Christian Hospital, is placed in 130 Hip Wo Street.


  • Hing Ning Road is Kwun Tong mid-level, the headquarter of east Kowloon Police Section is placed in 200 Hing Ning Road.


Industry Zone

Kwun Tong is one of the industry zone in Hong Kong, the factories had been built since 1950's. These industrial areas are mainly located in Kowloon Bay, Kwun Tong, and Yau Tong. Because the importance of industry in Hong Kong is fading out, many factories were tore down and commercial buildings are constructing to replace them.

Residential Zone

The residential areas in Kwun Tong are mainly located in Ngau Tau Kok, upper Kwun Tong Central, Sau Mau Ping and Lam Tin.




Kwun Tong is served by the Kwun Tong Line (6 stations) and the Tseung Kwan O Line (1 station) of the MTR metro system. Roads that serving the area include:

  • Kwun Tong Road

  • Kwun Tong Bypass

  • Tseung Kwan O Tunnel

  • Eastern Harbour Crossing
