The Jialing River has 1119 km long, while originates from Bailong Jiang and Xihanshui. From its source, Lianghekou in Lueyang of Shaanxi, to Zhaohua is called the upper reaches of Jialing River, while its middle reaches are between Hechuan and Zhaohua. Then, the river joins the Yangtze River|Yangtze in Chongqing. Growing curved is the main characteristics of Jialing River. From Zhangwang Miao (Temple of Zhangfei) in Guangyuan to longdongtuo in Hechuan, the distance in straight is only slightly more than 200 km. However the length of watercourse between them are over 600 km. The most tortuous area is between the Nancong and Wusheng. There are large number of tributaries among Jialing River. The sharp seems like branches, while the largest ones include Fu Jiang (also was known as Sui He) and Qu Jiang, both of which merge together into Jialing River at Hechuan.
