"Only one man can stop the Yakuza"

When the governor of Tokyo is murdered, the CIA taps their local operative, Travis Hunter, to look into it. Hunter discovers a web of corruption and violence that leads to an ambitious young yakuza boss attempting to move up through the ranks with the help of the Chinese triads. Hunter must use all of his contacts and abilites to defuse this potentially dangerous situation.

Into the Sun is an action packed adventure filmed in the style of the classic yakuza films The Yakuza and Black Rain filled with rich shots of modern Tokyo and martial arts Steven Seagal is known for.

Originally conceived as a remake of the Sydney Pollack film The Yakuza, Warner Brothers wouldn't release the rights to the story and the film was consequently reworked into Into the Sun.

Seagal reportedly put up much of his own money to finance this film as an homage to the Japan of his youth, and includes a scene through a Shinjuku back alley he routinely walked through going from his then 4 tatami apartment to the dojo he was training at and features many locally popular Asian actors such as Akira Terao, Takao Osawa and Ken Lo.

Hoping to showcase his Japanese liguistic abilites, many of the scenes were shot in Japanese but later dubbed in English due to the studio's belief that American audiences would not be able to follow the dialog.
