  • Inner (lower) trigram is ☳ (|:: 震 zhen4) Shake = (雷) thunder

  • Outer (upper) trigram is ☳ (|:: 震 zhen4) Shake = (雷) thunder

  • The trigrams can be read bottom to top as "With enlightenment (thunder in lower) comes awareness (thunder in upper)"

I Ching

The following material is drawn from analysis of the binary sequence of the hexagrams where the hexagrams are derived from recursion of yin/yang and so showing a property of the method - the hexagrams are all linked together and contribute to the expression of, the description of, each hexagram.

  • The skeletal form of hexagram 51 is described by analogy to the under-exaggerated properties of hexagram 35 where we have a generic focus on bringing 'something' into the 'light'. As such, hexagram 51 covers the 'sudden' emergence of new paradigms that can serve to 'shake' the established, the status quo.
