Dongfeng Motor Corporation (Chinese language|Chinese: ??????????????????; Pinyin: D??ngf??ng Qich?? G??ngs??) is a People's Republic of China|Chinese automobile manufacturing firm. It manufactures and assembles buses, trucks, cars and parts under its own name and in joint ventures with a variety of international automobile firms.

Dongfeng (which means "East Wind") was founded at the behest of Chairman Mao Zedong in 1968. As part of his "Third Front" strategy, it was located in Hubei Province, far inland, to protect it from foreign invasion. It has become the second-largest automobile manufacturer in China. The company will make an Initial Public Offering in December 2005, though it will remain 70% owned by China's central government.




Dongfeng operates many joint venture manufacturing concerns in China.

  • Dongfeng Peugeot-Citro??n Automobile — With the PSA Group produces the Citro??n ZX, Citro??n Xsara|Xsara, Citro??n Picasso|Picasso, and Citro??n Elys??e|Elys??e, and Peugeot 307

  • Dongfeng Motor Company — With the Nissan Motor Company produces the Nissan Sunny, Nissan Bluebird|Bluebird, Nissan Teana|Teana, and Nissan Tiida|Tiida

  • Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company — With the Honda Motor Company produces the Honda CRV

  • Dongfeng Nissan-Diesel Company — With Nissan Motor Company|Nissan Diesel produces heavy trucks

  • Dongfeng Yueda Kia Automobile Company — Dongfeng has a 25% share with Kia and Yueda to produce the Hyundai Accent, Kia Optima, and Kia Carnival/Kia Cerato|Cerato

  • Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Company — Wholly-owned subsidiary which produces the Dongfeng Future minivan

  • Honda Automobile (China) Company — Dongfeng owns 10% of Honda's importer in Guangdong Province

  • Dongfeng Automobile Company Limited — A joint venture with Cummins to produce Diesel trucks and engines
