The company produced 20,000 Ford Fiestas in 2003 and will build the Ford Mondeo|Mondeo and Ford Escape|Escape-based Maverick SUV. Production is based around so-called CKD|knockdown kits, partially-assembled vehicles imported to meet local assembly regulations. Ford hopes to increase capacity to 50,000 vehicles in 2004 and 150,000 soon after. On April 20, 2005, Ford and Mazda announced a new engine factory in Nanjing, China with Changan.
