1 Introduction
Chai Wan

Chai Wan (lit. "Place with lumber") is an area located in Eastern district, at the east of the Hong Kong Island of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Chai Wan was formerly known as Sai Wan. At the beginning of the 18th century, there were 6 villages there: Dai Ping Village, Law Uk, Luk Uk, Nam Uk, Sai Village, Sing Uk.

In 1845, the British military built a fort and a barrack there.
<br>In 1952, the government built low-cost housing to replace the existing villages.

Chai Wan is a valley close to Lei Yue Mun harbour and is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides.

It consists largely the residential and industrial areas known as Heng Fa Chuen, Siu Sai Wan and Chai Wan.

The Law Uk Folk Museum is located in Chai Wan.

The area is served by the MTR metro station of the same name, which is the eastern terminus of Island Line, Hong Kong|Island Line. There is another station at Heng Ha Chuen.
