Anote Tong (in Chinese language|Chinese, 湯安諾; pinyin: Tāng Ānnu?? ??? his family name is of Chinese origin but it is now considered as Gilbertese by Kiribati people) (born 1952) is the president of Kiribati. He won the election in July 2003 with a slim majority (47.4%) against his brother, Dr. Harry Tong (43.5%) and the private lawyer Banuera Berina (9.1%). The elections were contested by the opposition, due to allegations of electoral fraud but the High Court of Tarawa had confirmed that there was no fraud.

The son of a Overseas Chinese|Chinese migrant who settled in the Gilberts after World War II and of a Gilbertese woman, he graduated from the London School of Economics.

During the campaign, he promised to review the lease of a spy and satellite tracking base used by the People's Republic of China and "to take appropriate actions at the right time." On November 7, he established relations with the Republic of China on Taiwan, which led the People's Republic of China to sever relations and vacate its satellite base nearly a month later.

He was married to a Kiribati woman named Meme and had seven children- Vincent, Tenoa, Elizabeth, Kirieta, Xiaoping, Rotiira and Graeme. His first son, Vincent, married in December 1999 to a nurse by the name of Miiri, while his second son, Tenoa, is working hard now to be a computer scientist and his daughter Elizabeth is engaged to a Chinese man named William and is expected to be married in December 2005. His son, Kirieta, married a woman by the name of Tekaniri in December 2004. His daughter Xiaoping schooling at Saint Louis and she's in form five now (2005), his daughter Rotiira is a cripple girl and she's in Fiji, she's at the bording school there and his last son Greame now in class four (2005) and he also trains tai kwan-do. He also had two grandsons Evi and Thomas, Evi is now in class one (2005) and also train the tai kwan-do and his four year old granson thomas and he's in pre-school at the international and also train tai kwan-do.
